Hilariously brave person chases raccoons away from a cute kitten at 2 AM, hoping to finally win him over and adopt him: 'We were in bed and then I heard a SCREAM so now I'm on the kitten night watch. Chasing away raccoons.'

Every once in a while, cats really decide to make dramatic entrances into our lives. 

The cat distribution system can find us in all kinds of situations in our lives. Sometimes, it's calm. A cat walks up to your home, walks in, and never leaves. It's simple. It's sweet. Other times, it's funny, and a cat flies through your window and right into your lap and into your life, leaving you with no choice but to accept your fate, go out and get cat supplies. Sometimes, it's all about confusion, and you find yourself being handed a kitten through a Starbucks drive-through winow and leaving with it neatly tucked into your apron pocket. 

But every so often, once in a blue moon, the CDS decides to go all out and come into your life in a blaze of glory. Chaos. Chaos everywhere. Screaming in the middle of the night and having to fight off raccoons in complete darkness with a hockey stick to attempt to save the life of a tiny black kitten who doesn't know what it has gotten itself into. It's all worth it in the end, of course. We know it, the CDS knows it, and the person fighting the raccooons… they're going to learn this eventually.

  • This is simultaneously the cutest and funniest thing that we have ever heard. The fact that you went out there, trying to save this defenseless cat from a hoard of raccoons in the middle of the night is one of the most commendable things ever. And it should be praised properly. Because few people would have done something so kind and brave for an animal. At the same time, the image that we have in our minds of you out there, in the dark, swinging a hockey stick around at a bunch of hungry, scary raccoons, has to be one of the funniest things our mind has ever conjured up.

  • We do have to stop and be sensitive for a second though, and say thank you. Because you deserve it. Not just for heroically going out in the middle of the night to fight raccoons for this kitten, but for making so much effort to take him in, save him from all the future raccoons and other animals out there that would have gone after him. It was a lot of work, we can see that, and we hope that you know that it is very much appreciated. And although he might not be able to say “thank you” in words, the fact that there are so many pictures of him blepping in this thread should tell you just how happy he is with his new home.

    Thought I'd update y'all! We're currently fostering this bébé after trapping him when he was living under our deck for about five days. We've been calling him Woodley; he's about 9/10 weeks old with a really bad case of ringworm that's resulted in almost complete hair loss of his tail. He had his first round of vaccines and dewormer and is being treated for the ringworm and some intestinal parasites.

    He is an incredibly spicy foster baby. I've fostered around 28 feral kittens (most from the neonatal age) because I used to be a veterinary technician. Somehow even after my employment I just keep finding feral kittens. The curse of the vet tech Imao

    Anyway, he's getting boosters and his FeLV (feline leukemia) test in a few weeks and will have been about a month into his ringworm treatment by then and hopefully can get him into a rescue group while still fostering him because we have a cat dad extraordinaire adult cat who LOVES foster kittens and teaches them the all important cat socialization, grooming, and healthy play.

    Unsure about coat length, I would guess he'll be a medium hair. As for his color, he seems to be a chocolate colored kitty but who knows if it stays that way. We've had him for 2.5 weeks now and it's some real slow socialization progression but he's really made some strides in the past two days and demands snugs now (even though he forgets who I am the minute I put him down Imao). Here's hoping we don't end up with a fourth cat Imao

    Update: we are completely medically cleared!!! Ringworm has healed, no more intestinal parasites and we are FIV/FeLV negative. Woodley had his second vet appointment yesterday and got the all clear and his booster vaccines. Now we can really focus on finding him a loving home!
